Presidential election is nothing more than a political trump
card played by different political parties. Everybody is having its own agendas
and respective nominations. While some body is trying to play the caste
politics while others have regional or personal preferences. The suitability or
the preference for the person is limited only for the attainment of short and
long term political benefits by different power segments. While there is a
clear indication of increase in the regional politics in India, which has made
the government more crippled and incapable of strong decision making, these
parties are always trying to find out new means to create more ripples for
their power projection.
There is no question of suitability, work or background in
the selection process of the First Person of the nation. While the Congress is
lobbying high for the nomination of Pranab Mukherjee for the chair at the same
time other parties are making their own respective equations. Everybody is
eyeing 2014 Loksabha elections and keeping this thing in mind, nobody wants to
risk a rational person to be elected to avoid the exertion, since no party
seems to acquire a clear majority. While there is some progress from the side
of the rising regional powers like Mamta and Mulayam as they are proposing the
name of Kalam strongly but the selfishness is still a part of the system. They
have two main reasons to do so, first being they want more recognition as
their aspirations have grown enough to play a formidable role in the central politics,
second being they simply do not want either the Congress or the BJP to take
over the control and want to make them more dependent or possibly hoping for a
new equation of a parallel and powerful 3rd front.
The Politics in India is now a multi-polar one,
counterbalances are everywhere. CMs of different states have grown their
influences to new glories and have made several small power alliances among
themselves and are now challenging directly to the Union. Yet such system
within the system cannot be called a healthy move for the federal structure of
our country and have long term adverse implications but for the short while,
have created a powerful deterrent against the anomalous policies of the union
government. People have overtaken parties and personal goals have crushed organisational
or national ones. Country is going through the great economic, social and
political disaster and no recovery can be seen from anywhere.
While no party seems to have 50.01 % majority for
their respective candidates and no one ready to clearly support other’s, we
will have to be in just a wait and watch mode until a consensus is made over a
common nomination or a complete set of new political strategy comes into picture which decides the
fate of the chair of president of Democratic Republic of India.
